...means The Dad gets out the bacon!
So, the girls wanted a snack while we were waiting for the pizza dough to rise. See, they are on the quest of learning to cook. The first thing they wanted to do was learn to make pizza. Super Duper Cool. Shawna worked with them on mixing up a batch of dough, and then let it rise.
So out comes the bacon for the snack. Then the inspiration happens, you know, the man inspiration. We have bacon, frying in cast iron. We have pizza dough rising. You can already see where this is heading...right? Ok, if you're not following, here, I'll make it simple. There's a grill outside! What you still don't get it? Ok, so, I tell the girls we'll make grilled pizza! They didn't have quite the same level of enthusiasm that I did. In fact, I got the stereo typical "uh, Dad, are you sure this will work?" Of course! That's the beauty and adventure of it. We have cast iron, grill, bacon drippings, and pizza dough. Now I think you get it.
The grill is heated, the bacon drippings are bubbling. Toss the dough into a round, then into the bubbly. Ah, the sizzling, then, since it's pizza, put on some cheese and red pepper flakes. Wait, don't open the grill yet.
There we go, grilled pizza cooked, oh, ok, fried in the bacon drippings. Glorious.
Truth? The girls only let me sneak a small bit of dough, they wanted to continue with the original plan, make their pizza in the 450 degree oven. It was good, too.
