For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move. - Robert Louis Stevens
This leg of the journey encompasses some of that. A stay in Salida, just because. We stumbled upon Salida several years ago and enjoyed it greatly. Plus, Cafe Dawn is there...what more is needed?!?! We stopped at Plough Boy’s, a Colorado made products grocery store and bakery. Picked up some cheeses and tamales for that evening’s dinner.
Our journey afforded us the time to explore, to listen, to laugh. This day was to be a shorter day, but ended up not being that much shorter. A stop in one of the most fantastical city parks, Gunnison, some swinging, sliding, and climbing. Then a stop at Fire Brand Deli, introduced to me last summer, on a most excellent bike trip. [Monarch Crest]
Our travels took us over Slumgullion Pass and through Lake City. Places not on the way, but were contrived to be “on the way” since they were between Salida and Durango on the map. Ah, the peak of efficiency, 7.5 hours to do a 4 hour drive.
And our last night on the road, the Durango KOA. Pretty lux accomodations from a camping perspective. Hot showers, kitchenette, air conditioning and a picnic table. Necessary to prepare the tamales - they were so good.
