Labor day weekend started on Thursday evening. And truth be told, earlier than that with planning and conversation. Loaded up the bikes on Thursday night for a trip to the Mighty San Juans. Durango , Colorado that is.
Outa PHX town at 6:00, hit up Macy's Coffee house in Flag around 8:00. Sticky pecan rolls and coffees all around. On the road again. Oh, and about the road, the cd changer was amply fed. Beatles, Big Star, Uncle Toupelo.
Heading out with foodies means the culinary spectacle happens on the road. As such we ate lunch on the side of the road. Gouda and Jerk seasoned cheeses, sourdough, sprouted wheat, prosciutto, strawberries, we had it goin' on. The jerk seasoned cheese even had a fitting name. Well fed, back on the road we went. Head Like a Kite, Foo Fighters, Zeppelin.
Arrived in Durango about 3:30. Decided to go find one of the Horse Gulch system trail heads. And, since it was still early in the day as well as cool, we decided to make a ride of it. None of us had been on any of these trails, just knew they were highly rated. They weren't disappointing. Well signed, flowy trails. Meadow loop, stacy’s loop and Cuchillo are quite the ride.
Good ride at the end of a pretty good drive. Off to Steamworks for some southwest chicken pizza.
More to come...
