of gravel roads and fishing poles

Estes Park - in the rain. Yep, set up the camper in the rain. Rain drops on the roof always make for good sleeping though.

A new day dawned, with a little more rain.

It was a welcomed sight, during the day with the camper set up. With the wildfire activity in Colorado, the rains aided the containment and forced the Wildfire Danger signs into the Green zone.

We spent time doing inside activities like popcorn popping and craft projects. Several episodes of Hogan's Heroes made the time pass quickly.

As always, the sun comes out and now, as the title suggests, you can almost hear the whistling as Andy and Opie walk down the road.  Except, we were riding bikes and fishing was just one of the pastimes enjoyed.

We had a hike planned this year, to see some Homestead Ruins. Since little feet were involved, a pre-hike sounded like a good idea, much in the way a good baker "samples" the cookiedough before letting the kids know it's finished.  But anyway, I convinced my ever-loving wife to join me on this adventure, although I don't think I used the word adventure when speaking with her, most likely something more innocuous like walk, or stroll.

Up the mountain we head, with a hand drawn map from the 80's maybe?  Oh, and a note that said "Not to Scale".  Yeah, that sounded like adventure in my mind. There wasn't much left of the homesteads, but we did get to see some great country, and my wife captured a photo of me doing something my biking friends know quite well.  Reading a map and trying to determine just where we are. With storm clouds building.

We made it back, it was only 5 hours later. And we had an adventure together. That's worth bunches.
