Double By-Pass

Windgate, Bell. Sounds so simple. Flows off the tongue. It isn’t completed quite so easily.

McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a Scottsdale park, 17,000 acres, pretty good sized park, eh? The park sports a good number of loops, allowing for a moderate to a monster [quad] styled ride. We chose the moderate version, it’s been a few years since I have ridden the monster.

The day starts out with a climb to Windgate Pass, about 1,400 feet of elevation gain. A climb that makes you wonder if I should be riding my bike or walking. A little slope, a little tech, all bunched together and continuous.

There are several sections of trail, on which, the grades become, uh, walkable? Me, doing some of that walking thing.

Now shall I walk
or shall I ride?

"Walk," Joy replied.

See? A good hike-a-bike enhances the experience of the ride. One gets to involve multiple emotions, and with a stout downhill, maybe even a little fright.

While the flowers are not in full bloom, there are glimpses of color that wave us on.

3 hours of climb, color, conversation. Another good day on the bike, spent with friends. A good day indeed.
