Well, the vacation started off with some camping in Durango . Wanted to make a 2 day journey to Estes Park , with an overnight along the way. Moab was deemed to hot this time of year, so Durango it was. Get in late, set up the camper in the rain and go to sleep. Morning brought fresh ground coffee and reading.
Showers, breakfast and packing up were the order of the day. We still had a long drive ahead of us.
Once packaged up again, headed into town and decided maybe a latte was in order, since we found the ginger snap cookies we made for the trip. The drive through Leadville was beautiful, even if some lower intestinal distress caused the forward motion to slow. An extra night was spent in Frisco. Then, finally, after that extra day, we arrived at our destination. And the upcoming 4th of July holiday.
At our destination, all kinds of summertime fun commenced. Slingshots, slides, and s'mores. What else defines the idyllic summer outdoors?
At our destination, time has somewhat stood still for a few, ok, maybe more than a few years. The slide is an old fashioned, super fast, galvanized steel speed demon. Castings for the steps, low sidewalls, super slick surface. You know, things that build character in a person...or at least have the potential to create scars. But it has the name to go with the holiday.
It has been made known through some events and various rumors, that I can make some pretty good cookies. Chocolate chip dreams, in fact. Well, the young'uns in the group conspired against me, but, how's that go? Age and treachery overcome youth and skill every time? I agreed to make them if they mixed up the dough. (I knew there wasn't a mixer in the house, so spoons would have to do).
oh, yeah, they were good, very good.
Another activity that the kids enjoy and occupies much time, feeding the wildlife. Corn comes from Nebraska , is shucked by youngsters, and eaten by chipmunks untold.
This year, the sneakiness even caught one unsuspecting and probably too tame little 'munk.
In celebration of 18, my lovely and I headed into Rocky Mountain National Park . See, the thing is, we honeymooned (hehe, he said mooned!) here. So, I wanted to head back that way and besides, I love the high country and what better way to go and see it than with the most favorite one beside me.
Black and white for the drama
A 10-24 zoom for fun and flowers.
Us.
And so ended the week in Estes Park . ‘cept for one more action packed trip. To the ER. X-rays for Karis, turned out to be a sprained elbow. We were still able to head south, and met up with some friends in Durango . It was a fun meet with good coffee.
